The Wind-Ups (members of Terry Malts, Neutrals, Smokescreens) debut LP, Try Not To Think, is a lo-fi punk rock 'n' roll burst. It might quickly remind you of The Saints, The Ramones or The Spits. But listen a little longer and you're certain to pick up on an unabashed power pop backbone, one that sources influence from the Modern Lovers, Paul Collins' Beat, The Shoes, so on and so forth.

R.E. Seraphin “Jangling power pop that finds itself somewhere between paisley pop and post-punk. Each track is beautifully constructed: chiming guitar leads and a hushed yet wobbly vocal delivery that adds a sneering moodiness (which pairs well with the lurking romanticism of each song). It’s a little burnt out, but still holding on.

When I first heard the album, I immediately thought of the great Peter Perrett (The Only Ones), but there’s a Mazzy Star-era David Roback (RIP) sound and clear janglyness (a la The Feelies).” - Counterzine

HITS

Driving post-punk rhythms under catchy and atmospheric songs. Bouncy warbling bass lines, propulsive drum beats, chiming guitar/melodic vox. Reminiscent of that early Rough Trade sound (Raincoats, Liliput, Au Pairs), early Grass Widow (fitting as Brian and Jen played with Lillian for her project Ruby Pins), and the well-established post-punk sound of Oakland past 2010.
